IbisNews is a weekly electronic newsletter that is emailed to all students at the University of Miami. The newsletter is managed by the Department of Student Activities & Student Organizations, and is sent every Wednesday during the academic year. Faculty, staff, and students are able to submit items to IbisNews.
All submissions must be received by Sunday at 11:59pm to be included in that week’s issue. Submissions that are emailed to ibisnews@miami.edu are NOT guaranteed to be included.

Please spell-check and fact-check items before submitting. The editors of IbisNews reserve the right to edit content for clarity, but are not responsible for errors contained in submissions or on external sites that students are directed to.

Guidelines for Submissions

What to Submit?

  • News specifically targeting students
  • Opportunities for student involvement or engagement
  • Information about large scale, university-wide programs
  • Details on important events, programs, resources and services

What Not to Submit…

  • Regularly scheduled club meetings
  • Events that are not open to students
  • Non-University Events
  • Outside advertising (including promotions of local businesses)
  • Recruitment for academic classes
  • Research or other types of polls or surveys

If you would like to advertise a specific date for a program or event, please use the University ‘Canes Calendar, www.miami.edu/calendar .

Information contained in IbisNews is intended to guide students to other sources where they can find more information about the program or service being advertised. Submissions are limited to 500 words, and should include:

  • General information about the program/service
  • Dates and times
  • Location (if applicable)
  • Link to a website or other source where students can find more information. To save characters, use the built-in hyperlink generator on the submission form.
